ADHD / Neurodevelopment
Under 18
For children and young people under the age of 18, referrals are now made directly with the Neurodevelopmental assessment team.
Referrals can be made by any professional who knows the child/young person well (i.e. has seen them regularly and over a period of time) by telephoning the above number. Appropriate professionals include SENDCOs, teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, paediatricians and mental health professionals. You should share your concerns with the referrer who can then arrange a time for a referral call with a member of the team. Once the call has taken place you will be informed of the outcome in writing.
Please note: For children and young people under 18 yrs, GPs are typically not appropriate professionals to make the referral as they do not have the time available to gather the detailed information or observations that the team need. This means that their referral may not be accepted due to insufficient information. Please do not request a referral from your GP when there are other professionals who are better placed to do this. If you feel you do not have an appropriate professional to make the referral, please contact the team for advice.
Right To Choose
Please contact 01484 343184 to check the criteria as some providers may not offer the service you require.
Kirklees ICB (Integrated Commissioning Board) have commissioned the local NHS team to take all referrals for neurodevelopmental assessments in under 18s to screen for clinical appropriateness. Therefore, if you wish to access an assessment from another provider a referral should be made to the Kirklees Neurodevelopmental assessment team in the first instance. Once the referral has been accepted for assessment you can then approach your GP for a referral through the Right to Choose framework if you wish. If you do request a referral to another provider through Right to Choose, you must let the Kirklees Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team know as you cannot be on two waiting lists at the same time. Further information about your Right to Choose can be found here https://www.wypartnership.co.uk/our-priorities/mental-health-learning-disability-and-autism/neurodiversity/right-to-choose
Please also be aware if you choose a provider where there is no shared care arrangements in place the practice may not be able to take over the management of prescribing.
Over 18
Routine NHS services have shared care agreements for prescribing to be transferred to your GP after initiation. However where patients choose to use a right to choose / private provider the practice may not be able to take over the management of prescribing.
Please contact the practice to book appointments to discuss referral.
